Understanding Your Spine

Facilitator: Danny Martin, Osteo Therapist

Investment: $88 + gst (2 sessions)

Dates: 2023-04-17 - 2023-04-24

Postural prompts and exercise form tips have led us to believe that we need to be very rigid in order to look our best or limit injury. These concepts have been pushed out of context, turning into law for all movement. The consequence of this narrative cost us our mobility, decreased function and compromised whole body coordination that inevitably happens during even the most seemingly isolated movements.

Overall, spine health is about how well we can transition between different postures, managing pressure, how much space we have to disperse stress, and exposure to all planes of movement.

This workshop aims to promote health and fitness from neck to tail, positively influencing movement apprehension or avoidance, mitigate injury and improve performance. It is suitable for all levels of fitness.

What to expect:

Breathing drills - what is expansion vs compression and why belly button to spine could cause more harm than help.

Rigidity vs fluidity - when does the spine need to brace, when can/should it relax.

Exploring movement outside of neutral - mobility of spine

New approaches to managing acute / chronic back pain

Understanding relationship between spine and limbs - how they limit and free one another

Graded exposure - how to progressively strengthen spine and associated musculature
To build resiliency and mitigate injury.

Sharing the effort - how to offload the spine through hips and shoulders. Includes new hip hinge tutorial and shoulder exercises.

Troubleshooting common irritators - strategies for navigating pain and irritation during stretching, exercising and daily postures.

We'll leave time at the end for questions and ability to troubleshoot specific needs.
