JASMINE BURTON
My journey with yoga began when I was 13 and my mother invited me to a Hatha series in my home town in Eastern Québec, she was hoping it would be a tool in my tool box for my crippling anxiety. The grounding and discovery changed my perspective. My natural expression in this world has always been through my practice, my photography and art. How to land in my body, how to reach beyond my mind and habitual conversations I have with myself. I value bringing myself and students inwards, to the edge, to the unknown of what is possible, physically and mentally, into playful transitions, longer holds, pranayama, observation and discovery of our own selves. As this life practice teaches us best, there is no end, no perfection, only growth, softness and grace.
Through Hatha, Ashtanga, Rocket, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Iyengar and others, I adventure into these different roots because my mind stays out of the way if I am continuously engaged by the asana, pranayama and meditation. I am forever curious, through movement and stillness, linked into breath, I thrive to understand myself in this body I have. Thank you to the many teachers and students in my life... Darren Rhodes, Elena Brower, Lydia Zamorano, Erin Evans, Curran Watts... only to name a few of the very many that have impacted my life and practice and my approach.
This practice is life-long, imperfect, asymmetrical, messy and honest. When you show up, and are present, magic and freedom await. The possibility of meeting your higher self. It’s the most honest form of myself I’ve ever met. I strive to teach from this lens. Forever changing, always in movement, also in stillness, sitting with everything that surrounds the practice mentally and physically through breath.
